Max Currie is an Emmy-winning New Zealand and British writer-director. Most recently, he was set-up director on BUST UP (Eps 1-3), the 2026 queer crime comedy-drama for ZDF and Sky NZ that went to #1 on NEON - now a finalist in nine categories at the 2026 New Zealand Screen Awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Director.  He also co-showran and series directed RŪRANGI, the International Emmy-winning trans drama.

Max creates and executive produces his own originals, and loves joining other people's shows, as a writer, story producer or director: finding the tone early, building rooms where honesty and play can coexist, and protecting the heart of a story under pressure.

And because life is strange, he's also known as PitCrew on RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under: a delicious detour for a filmmaker who knows the line between awe and absurdity is always a little tucked.
